Finding the right foundation shade can be a tricky endeavour for any women, but even more so for women of colour. One of the most heard complaints from women of colour is still: why can't I find a foundation that seamlessly blends and really matches my complexion?!
Many brands promise the earth when it comes to catering for women of colour but don't always reflect the varied palette of shades and undertones that gives a complexion its unique colour.
The result is a foundation that is either too red or leaves too many ashy grey tones and ultimately leave many women of colour feeling slightly frustrated.
But there is good news (there is no point focusing on the bad without highlighting the good..)
The number of brands that are allocating the required amount of resources to darker colours and deliver a wide variety in shades without compromising on quality is constantly rising and those are amongst the brands we feel happy welcoming into our Sable Beauty family.
When choosing a foundation shade it is important to consider the primary skin colour as well as the undertone, i.e the unique colour that you can find 'under' the skin's surface.
The foundation should match both your primary colour as well as your undertone.

There is no definite way to determine your skins' undertone, but the easiest is to:
do the vein test:
-if your veins have a green hue, your skin tone is warm with a yellow and/or golden undertone
-if your veins have a blue hue, your skin tone is cool with a pink, red and/or blueish undertone
-if you can not determine the hue of your vein you are probably neutral and have a mixture of yellow and red undertones
do the silver/gold test:
-if you look good in silver, you probably have a cool undertone
-if you look better in gold, then you're warm.
-if you look good in both, you’re probably neutral.
But life is busy enough without having to spend hours choosing the right foundation shade. So we have done the work for you and edited the wide range of colours we offer for darker skin tones, so the only thing you have to do is sit back, match and order!
